A Safe Sales Contract for Private Sales: What to Include

In private sales, what is in writing counts. A careful sales contract prevents later disputes and gives both sides clarity.

The contract should include the full details of buyer and seller, vehicle data such as the vehicle identification number, first registration and mileage, plus the agreed price. Record the condition honestly and explicitly list any known defects.

Private sellers usually exclude warranty effectively – but only if no defects are fraudulently concealed. The phrase "sold as seen" alone does not cover hidden damage you were aware of.

Hand over the registration documents, all keys and the service booklet. Note the date, time and signatures of both parties. Keep a signed copy – it is your most important proof.
